Fix a custom domain connection

Start in the affected website's Settings → Domain. You can also open Workspace → Domains → Manage domain to reach it. Use the values shown in your current setup screen when checking DNS.

Check where DNS is managed

Your domain registrar and DNS host can be different companies. Edit records at the provider named by your domain's current nameservers. Records added to an inactive DNS zone will not fix the connection.

Check that you entered the intended domain and selected the correct provider in Pineapple.

Match the required records

  1. Open the DNS records step in Pineapple.

  2. Copy each required record's type, name and value into your DNS provider.

  3. Add any ownership-verification TXT record Pineapple requests.

  4. Remove only records identified as conflicting with the website connection.

  5. Save the records, return to Pineapple and check the connection again.

Keep email-related MX records and unrelated TXT records. Replacing your entire DNS zone can interrupt other services using the domain.

Do not copy an IP address from an old tutorial when your setup screen provides a different value. The current screen is the source for your connection's required values.

Setup is still pending

DNS changes can take time to appear. If the new values are saved at the correct DNS host, allow time for them to propagate and check again.

Pineapple checks the root domain and its www version. Review both before treating setup as complete. If a Finish setup action is shown, complete that step as well.

A message that Pineapple could not check DNS is different from a result saying the required changes were not found. Retry a failed check before changing correct records again.

The domain connects but the homepage is missing

Check that the website has a published homepage at its root path. A successful DNS connection does not publish your pages for you.

If the problem continues, contact support with the domain, the affected website and the exact setup message. A screenshot of the relevant DNS records can help; leave out unrelated account details.
