Understand your website traffic
Website analytics helps you see which pages people visit and which actions they take. Start with one business question, such as “Are visitors reaching my consultation page?” rather than trying to improve every number at once.
Open the correct website
Select the workspace and website, then open Analytics. Check the domain and date range before interpreting the numbers. The website analytics view is different from workspace AI Usage, which measures product activity and credits.
If you see an upgrade or domain-setup screen, follow that setup before expecting visitor data. A sample dashboard is not evidence of traffic to your website. See Activate analytics.
Start with three checks
Traffic: are people arriving at the website in the period you selected?
Pages: are they reaching the service and contact pages that matter?
Actions: are they clicking the important calls to action, and are real enquiries reaching you?
Use the date range and filters available in your dashboard. Compare equivalent periods rather than a full month with a partial week. For a new website with little traffic, a single visit can change a percentage substantially.
Understand what the numbers can show
A page view counts a page being viewed, including repeat views. A visitor or visit metric groups activity according to the analytics service's rules. It is not a verified customer count.
Sources and campaign tags help identify where traffic came from. Direct or unknown traffic can include visits without usable referral information; it does not necessarily mean someone typed the address.
Use the analytics glossary for the main terms and their limits.
Check business outcomes separately
A click on “Book a consultation” shows interest in that action. It does not prove a booking was completed. Check your booking service, enquiry inbox or other destination for the outcome.
Use goal names and events to label important clicks. Keep labels consistent so you can compare the same action over time.
Turn a finding into one improvement
If people reach the service page but do not continue, review whether the offer, price information and next step are clear. If the contact page receives visits but enquiries fail, test the form before rewriting the homepage.
Change one meaningful thing, record when you changed it and compare a suitable later period. Do not claim a design change caused a result from only a handful of visits.
Missing or unexpected data
Check the website, date range, active filters, domain setup and tracking configuration. Browser restrictions and blocked scripts can affect collection. Different analytics tools may count visits differently.
Older Pineapple tutorials show a retired analytics system. Follow the current dashboard and setup messages rather than looking for old Plausible controls or promised “coming soon” features.
